They bombed a refugee camp yesterday. Technically they bombed another refugee camp a few times yesterday.
Western media nearly spun itself into a predictable frenzy trying to avoid stating the obvious: Israel knowingly and admittedly bombed an entire refugee camp multiple times in hopes of maybe killing one (1) “Hamas leader”. Call it a “blast” or an “explosion that left a crater”, but either way, Jabaliya, the largest refugee camp in Palestine, was targeted and destroyed. Jabaliya was originally established in 1948 (75 years ago) to house some 35,000 Palestinians expelled from Yaffa and other villages in southern Palestine during the Nakba.
Yesterday Jabaliya was hit with a barrage of six American-made bombs, each weighing about a ton. That bombing run was followed up by another, earlier today, leaving the entire neighborhood in ruin and hundreds presumed murdered by the Israeli regime. There could be no clearer sign that the apartheid state of Israel is solely focused on raining destruction and death upon the trapped population of Gaza. We’re nearing >10,000 Palestinians dead with no end in sight. If anything, each day brings an escalation of horror, and a threat of further escalation, and the reveal of a new, previously-inconceivable horror.
The Director of the UN's New York office resigned yesterday after thirty years at the organization over the UN's handling of the ongoing genocide of Palestinians. This man Craig Mokhiber’s whole job was to be one of the world's foremost experts on genocide and genocide prevention, and he just turned in his resignation because he recognizes that the UN is currently sitting on its hands as a textbook genocide is unfolding in plain view:
“The current wholesale slaughter of the Palestinian people, rooted in an ethno-nationalist colonial settler ideology, in continuation of decades of their systematic persecution and purging, based entirely upon their status as Arabs, and coupled with explicit statements of intent by leaders in the Israeli government and military, leaves no room for doubt.”
At this point, for many Gazans, everything beyond death is a luxury. Retrieving bodies from under the rubble using their bare hands is a luxury. Burying them is a luxury. Finding a body fully intact is a luxury. Sleeping for even a few hours is a luxury. Finding water, even if it’s contaminated, is a luxury. I can’t help but feel like we’ve failed them. But Ol’ president Bag o’ Bones Biden somehow still found a way to celebrate the delivery of a few trucks of aid supplies, calling it “the largest delivery of life-saving humanitarian assistance into Gaza so far”.
While Biden was celebrating, Dr. Ashraf Al-Qudra, the Palestinian spokesperson for the Ministry of Health declared a final warning yesterday, saying that the main generators in Al-Shifa Medical Complex were hours away from stopping. 16 hospitals are already out of service due to fuel shortages or as a direct result of the Israeli airstrikes. All the innocent babies in incubators and the patients on ventilators or hooked up to dialysis machines and all those barely clinging onto the fringes of life, they’ll lose access to anything resembling modern medicine in the hours ahead.
Israel has murdered more Palestinians than the number of people that died at Pearl Harbor, 9/11, and through 30 years of war in the north of Ireland…combined. And they did it all in 24 days. The US continues to block the rest of the world from calling for a ceasefire. Bolivia, god bless them, announced the severing of diplomatic relations with Israel yesterday, making it the first and only Latin American country to do so since October 7th. Neighboring nations Colombia and Chile also recalled their ambassadors from the apartheid state for consultations condemning the deaths of civilians in Gaza and calling for an immediate ceasefire.
Now footage is emerging of young Palestinian men in the West Bank, arrested indiscriminately without charge, often being forced to lie naked and bound in the dirt as Israeli soldiers kick their heads and beat on them. I was truly hoping to avoid mentioning the Telegram channels where tens of thousands of Israelis mock and humiliate the deceased, the mourning and near-dead Palestinians (NSFW Warning: Clicking on the link above is not recommended at ALL). Take my word for it, there are plenty of social media channels overflowing with images and footage of every imaginable sort of Palestinian anguish and devastation, alongside humorous captions or insults from maniacal and genocidal Israelis. The apathy and dehumanization that some Americans and westerners feel towards Palestinians is amplified exponentially in the Israeli mainstream.
In the face of all this inhumanity, there are still small victories to be recognized. There are still journalists working to get their story out, to make sure we don’t forget them. Special shoutout to the Belgian transport union workers who refused to load and unload weapons going to Israel (both via ports and airports) and called for an immediate ceasefire. True solidarity.
May ALLAH the Almighty bless you my Son for highlighting the plight of the innocent and strong people of Gaza. And may the Almighty grant them support and victory over the crazy war machine.
