There was a time, not too long ago, when attacking a hospital was cause for global concern. Unfortunately for the innocent people in Gaza, that time has come and gone like a fart in the wind. Civilians displaced by the genocide in Gaza have been fleeing as apartheid-defending Israeli forces attacked the area around Al Nasser Hospital, the main medical facility in the southern city of Khan Younis.
The war crimes don’t stop and they don’t slow down for a minute. People think that because we’ve seen footage of awful atrocities and gory videos on our timelines we have the slightest idea what Gaza is really like. The sad truth is there are horrors being carried out with our tax dollars that we’re not even going to begin to grasp for years.
Think back to last year, remember the breathless searching and endless updates for five idiots on a makeshift submarine. It seemed like the whole world was waiting to see what became of the wealthy (idiotic) adventurers (they were vaporized by extreme underwater pressure after their submersible turned out to be faulty). Now the attention of western leaders is focused squarely on a few disrupted shipping lanes in the Middle East. But there’s no concern for the 24,000 murdered Palestinians, and there’s no more concern for hospitals being bombed.

COVID Won: Thousands of kids in the Oakland Unified School District are returning to their classrooms after winter break with new COVID-19 rules imposed by the district. The California school district announced new COVID isolation protocols this week for students and school staff members that directly contradict 2020’s strict stay-at-home policies. Students can now go to class even if they test positive for the virus. So much for public health
Upton Sinclair Was Right: A Mississippi meat processing plant is facing federal health and safety citations as well as a $212,646 proposed fine in response to the death of a 16-year-old worker back in July. Duvan Tomas Perez was an immigrant from Guatemala who died on July 14 from a machinery accident on the evening shift. Of course there are federal laws that prohibit anyone under 18 from working in poultry plants due to the hazardous nature of the work, but these laws are regularly ignored. This is the third death at this specific processing plant since 2020
Based Ben & Jerry: It might not seem like much, but Ben & Jerry’s has joined the chorus of voices calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. There was a time, not long ago, when Ben & Jerry’s was a BDS target, much like Puma and Sodastream. But the beloved ice cream company sold their factory in Israel a few years ago and ceased their operations in the occupied West Bank back in 2021. BDS works folks
