Greetings from the land of Tim Horton’s and pigs on horseback! (This entry brought to you by maple syrup and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police)
Canada is much as I imagined; a bit cold, a bit European. The kinda place where if you squint your eyes, you can convince yourself that you’re still in America, but slightly worse. I purchased a Gatorade yesterday only to find that instead of being Cool Blue flavored, it was instead “Bleu Cool”, whatever that means. The speed limit signs are listed in kilometres instead of miles, and the temperatures are Celsius instead of the typical Fahrenheit, but apart from that, it’s pretty much Amerikkka. More (slightly ignorant) observations to come!
I’ll be venturing into the great outdoors today, trying to sniff out wildfire smoke and maybe track down a grizzly or two. Watch this space, updates to come.
Side Items
India to da Moon: India became the first country to land a spacecraft near the moon’s south pole earlier today, a historic journey to uncharted territory that scientists think could hold vital reserves of frozen moon water! A lander with a small rover inside touched down on the moon’s surface, kicking off celebrations around India. After failing in 2019, India now joins the US (allegedly), the Soviet Union and China as the only countries to make it to the moon. I’ll wait for the footage before I decide whether or not I believe this trip actually occurred
Not the Suez Again: Two massive tankers carrying oil products and liquefied natural gas collided in the single-lane stretch of the Suez Canal earlier today, briefly disrupting traffic through the crucial waterway. The issue was handled relatively quickly, so hopefully we won’t get inundated with memes about canals again. We all recall how much publicity the canal got last year when a giant tanker got stuck sideways
