Tuesday, November 28: Still Not a Ceasefire
I didn't know you could call timeout in the middle of a genocide
It’s hard to call it a “ceasefire” when one of the parties involved is continuing to kidnap more civilians, even as they release others. It can’t really be considered a pause in hostilities if one of the parties continues to fire on and kill civilians. It shouldn’t be considered a “humanitarian pause” if one of the parties is raiding the homes of those released from prison to ensure there’s no celebration taking place.
A Palestinian woman said, "They (Israel) receive their prisoners back unscathed and dignified, whereas ours return bearing broken limbs and evident marks of maltreatment and abuse. So, who exactly are the terrorists in this situation?" File that under “questions that need answers”. Another question worth considering is why the apartheid state insisted on denying their attack on Gaza’s Al-Shifa hospital. The Israeli military has attacked and destroyed numerous hospitals since then, without even claiming that they house covert Hamas headquarters.
No matter how hard the US and western media try to paint the apartheid state as the good guys in all this, Israel’s leaders continue to comfortably hop in front of TV cameras and spout some of the most genocidal and murderous rhetoric imaginable. Just look at this interview with the deputy mayor of Jerusalem, where she confirms that part of the hostage exchange deal requires Palestinians not to celebrate the return of their imprisoned loved ones. God forbid these families feel any sense of happiness at reuniting with their kids.
But for every family welcoming back a child or a sibling or a parent with open arms, there are countless more Palestinian families who won’t see their loved ones again. The “ceasefire” has been tense, to say the least, with both sides accusing the other of not sticking to the terms of agreement. The apartheid state has pointed out that Hamas broke their promise not to split up families during the release process, while Hamas has said that Israeli officials haven’t released prisoners who have spent the longest amount of time in jail first, as stipulated, or allowed the agreed amount of aid to reach Gaza. Only time will tell how long this tenuous pause in ethnic cleansing holds.
Side Items
Uber Exploitation: New reports indicate that Uber uses data about individual driver and passenger behaviors to specifically tailor prices so as to better take advantage of both parties. The rideshare giant has developed special algorithms to set customer prices based on what they believe individual customers would be willing to pay and setting payments to drivers so they are as low as possible to get them to accept trips. This is all part of the company’s ongoing and unsuccessful effort to turn a profit after 14 years
High School Murder: A high school student in Raleigh, NC was stabbed to death and another injured at Southeast Raleigh High yesterday. The school is closed today and police have a 14-year old suspect in custody. What else can be said? It’s just a sad reality we’re occupying
