Tuesday, July 5: Guns, Death & Fireworks
Nothing more American than a mass shooting at a holiday celebration
Yesterday I referred to the 4th of July as the best holiday for the worst reason. Since then a 22 year old dumbass opened fire on a parade in a Chicago suburb, killing at least 6 people and injuring dozens more. After initially escaping police detection, Robert Crimo III was apprehended hours later after an extensive search. No word yet on a motive, other than being bored and having easy access to guns, but I’m sure it’s just a matter of days before the mental health brigade starts in on his difficult childhood. Worth considering that Robert Crimo murdered innocent people, fled the scene of the crime, and was arrested alive. Jayland Walker on the other hand, had not killed anyone, was not an immediate danger to police, and was still murdered in the street.
Later in the evening, there were reports of another parade shooting, this time in Philadelphia. To summarize; the wealthiest, most technologically-advanced society in history has yet to figure out a way to let people enjoy watching a marching band without risking their lives. Pathetic. Tune in next year when we celebrate this country’s birthday by getting maced and beaten in the streets.
