Tuesday, July 18: Palling Around with Apartheid Israel
Nothing to see here, just two racist states learning from one another
Useless Ol’ Joey Robinette Biden is hosting the president of Israel Isaac Herzog at the white house today. For the record, the presidency of the apartheid state is mostly a decorative position, as prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu is the one calling all the oppressive and genocidal shots over there. Biden is looking to maintain and even strengthen ties with the apartheid lovers, despite his alleged concerns over the prime minister’s controversial plans to overhaul Israel’s judicial system and ongoing illegal settlement construction in the West Bank.
Netanyahu’s government continues to push forward with judicial changes that have sparked protest in apartheid Israel and he has authorized the construction of thousands of new housing units in the West Bank. Netanyahu and his brethren, a collection of the worst human beings on the planet, say judicial change is needed to rein in the powers of unelected judges. Opponents to the changes say the government’s plan will destroy Israel’s “fragile system of checks and balances” and move the country toward authoritarian rule.
It’s no surprise, but it bears repeating: this fragile system of checks and balances that so many thousands of Israelis are flocking to the streets to defend…it’s apartheid folks. And if anyone tries to tell you otherwise, remember this simple graphic about who can and can’t get married in Israel.
Side Items
Lost At Sea: A stranded Australian sailor and his puppy have been rescued in the South Pacific Ocean after spending months lost at sea. Tim Shaddock, a 51 sailor, and Bella, his adorable dog, departed from La Paz, Mexico, three months ago. About a month into his journey, a storm struck his white catamaran, wiping out all electronic equipment. Shaddock says he and Bella survived for three months at sea eating raw fish and drinking rainwater. His rescue was like finding a needle in a stack of haystacks in the enormous Pacific Ocean, especially since the helicopter that spotted him wasn’t even actively looking for him
Shot Spotter Spotting Shots: Brandon Johnson, the so-called progressive democrat mayor of Chicago has done little to inspire confidence so far in his tenure. Johnson has apparently forgotten his campaign trail commitments to pull the plug on ShotSpotter, the controversial gunshot detection system used by the city. For more than a decade, Chicago has used the company’s nearly 30-year-old technology, deployed in “high-crime areas” and designed to direct police to shootings, but in recent years the technology has faced intense criticism for its methodology and its impact on communities of color. I wish I could say I’m surprised, but one of the benefits of not buying any politician’s BS is that you eventually lose any ability to be surprised at how low these power-hungry bozos can stoop
Chicago PD: Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson did unveil a pilot welcome center for newly arrived migrant families yesterday. Officials within his administration have signaled this might be the first of several such centers. And all it took was one or two or three scandals involving police harassing (or sexually assaulting) the migrants that sought shelter at police stations
