Y’all should probably go ahead and check out Grandma’s Project if you haven’t already. The web series allows film directors to document their grandmothers as they cook at home, and the outcome is exactly as wholesome, cozy, and delicious as imagined. The eight-minute videos are almost as easily consumable as the dishes being prepared. As someone who occasionally struggles in the kitchen, the videos inspire me to try cooking something new, something I would’ve ordinarily considered beyond my abilities.
This trend of soothing cooking videos, generally featuring elderly individuals or couples, has seemingly taken social media by storm (here’s my favorite, thank me later). Grandfluencers, as they are known, command large audiences on YouTube, TikTok, etc., as their process invokes a sense of familiarity and nostalgia. Watching a grandmother cook can of course also be educational and entertaining, but for me personally, the big selling point is the farm background.
Not really breaking news I guess.

Covid’s Over Again: Ignoring the fact that hundreds of people are still dying from Covid every day, Ol’ Joey B is bringing an end to the twin national emergencies currently in place for addressing the virus on May 11. This decision will formally restructure the federal response to handling COVID as an ‘endemic threat’ (as opposed to a pandemic) that can be managed through the normal authority of existing agencies. We are well and truly on our own, so masking may be in your future
Fire Them All: Two more Memphis police officers were suspended yesterday, as the department continues to investigate the aftermath of Tyre Nichols’ murder. The Memphis Fire Department also fired three emergency response workers who arrived on the scene and failed to assess Nichols’ condition. It’s truly beyond my imagination how these emergency workers were able to ignore their responsibilities and overlook a dying man, losing their job should be the least of their concerns
In rare news that won’t make you wanna nosedive off the balcony, sunset is after 5pm most places again (!!), and it will only get later into the summer! So what I’m saying is it’s practically summer. Stay cool out there
something nice about just watching people cook...and later sunsets
