Tuesday, January 10: Special Forces Crimes
The US military has a strange way of attracting the worst people on the planet
A trail of tears and douche bag cars. This is how an ongoing investigation into the special forces military community in North Carolina has been described. State and FBI agents are investigating members of the 3rd Special Forces Group and Delta Force who allegedly were involved in drug and in one instance human trafficking.
The arrests started back in December 2022, with investigators receiving evidence after an undercover officer posing as an underage girl helped arrest a member of 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group. One day we’ll talk about how questionable/strange the tactic of posing online as underage children is, but I guess that’s a story for another day. In this case, the soldier was alleged to be bringing underaged girls to the Special Forces community at drug-fueled parties in Southern Pines, NC.
The dragnet operation led to the questioning of 15 service members in total regarding drug related allegations, spread across various special operations commands on Fort Bragg. The drugs allegedly distributed amongst the special operations community include cocaine, ecstasy, fentanyl, fentanyl lollipops (THEY MAKE THOSE??), and the "date rape drug" Rohypnol more commonly known as roofies.
"This is what happens when there is no war, no direction, and an 18-month red cycle with no mission. So dudes are fucking around with young kids and the craziest drugs. All these lives ruined because people are just bored."
-unnamed special forces soldier, evidently crime is just a by-product of boredom
Further evidence that the people volunteering to go abroad and fight the battles this country deems necessary aren’t usually the best and brightest.
Side Items
Bolsonaro Hospitalized…Again: While he watched from a distance as his coup was thwarted and his supporters were arrested en masse, former Brazilian leader Jair Bolsonaro felt a sudden pang in his gut. He couldn’t tell if it was related to a stab wound he sustained in an attempted assassination in 2018 orrrr if it was a consequence of plotting to overthrow the government that forced him into voluntary exile. Either way, the situation begs the question: should the US allow authoritarians who inspire domestic terrorism to seek refuge here?
College Football Playoff: I only bring this up because I’ve never seen such a lopsided score in a championship game. The Georgia Bulldogs took down Texas Christian University yesterday 65-7 to bring this college football season to a close. I sat at home yesterday, enjoying some tasty stew, obviously NOT participating in a football game, and I only scored seven fewer points than the entire TCU team. What a pity
IRS In Shambles: In an illuminating sign of things to come, republicans in the house moved to cut funding for the Internal Revenue Service yesterday, as conservative lawmakers try to kneecap Biden’s $80 billion overhaul of the useless agency. The extra $80 billion was included in last year’s Inflation Reduction Act, which passed despite republican opposition. It’s intended to help the agency crack down on tax evaders and ensure that the government is collecting the taxes it’s owed by hiring 87,000 IRS employees and modernizing the agency’s antiquated technology systems
