Thursday, October 20: An Empire in Shambles...again
There's a new Liz on her way out of power...and this one's still breathing
It appears London Bridge is beyond repair. Things have really taken a turn for the worse ever since the queen kicked the bucket. Seven weeks ago, all seemed ok; the queen was meeting the new PM and together they were charting a glorious girlboss future for the empire. Now Liz Truss is on the hot seat, having fired one of her most senior cabinet ministers, the second major ouster in her tenure, and of course the queen is in a box. Life (or death) comes at you fast.
Now as I type these words there’s breaking news…it’s being reported that Prime Minister Liz Truss will in fact be stepping down from her role, after almost 50 full days in office. Reminds me of my first job, working the register at a Dairy Queen in rural North Carolina, except at least I got free ice cream. Her tenure will be remembered for the two weeks where people politely stood in line to see a box with their queen mother inside. Other than that, a growing number of Tory (right-wing) lawmakers have called for Truss to resign after weeks of unrest sparked by her economic plan.
The economic plan definitely contributed to the speedy downfall, as it sparked financial turmoil and a political crisis that has seen the replacement of Truss’ Treasury chief, multiple policy U-turns and a breakdown of discipline in the governing Conservative Party. When several prominent Tory politicians called for her resignation yesterday, Truss remained defiant, saying, “I’m a fighter and not a quitter.”
Sometimes quitting isn’t the worst thing you can do. Sometimes the worst thing you can do is continue failing. On to the next power-hungry scumbag innit?

Putin Declares Martial Law: Remember those four Ukrainian territories that Putin annexed and claimed as Russian awhile back? Well now he’s declared martial law in these areas and ordered thousands of people to evacuate. This comes as Russians grow frustrated with an unpopular military conscription. Speaking of illegal seizures and annexations…
Israeli Blockade Continues: For nine days, the Israeli military has closed all eight surrounding military checkpoints to enter and exit Nablus. The Nablus district is home to over 425,000 people spread across four refugee camps, 55 villages, and one city. The suffocation continues as Israeli forces have refused to allow Palestinians to travel out of the West Bank for business or personal reasons. The economic impact of this blockade can’t be overstated, but as is often the case, the collective punishment is the point
