There aren’t many government administrations on whose downfall I pray, but Britain has always been an exception. Over the past several days, more than 50 members of the cabinet have resigned, indicating that Prime Minister/enemy of good haircuts Boris Johnson’s time in office is coming to a close. What can I say about Boris Johnson that hasn’t already been said about an overflowing garbage can? In his time as PM he’s overseen the mismanagement of a pandemic, numerous sexual and bullying scandals, a complete loss of the public trust, and of course an unpopular national exit from the European Union.
One of the things I always find humorous about British politics is the self-seriousness. You’ll have a grown man-child named something ridiculous like Purvis Von Barrington dressed like a show pony with pins and medals all over and he’ll be on TV going on about how absurd this whole charade (pronounced sha-rod) is. Meanwhile the charade in question is that he drunkenly groped three men in a gym locker room. Watching the downfall of what was once a strong and feared empire gives me hope that this country will eventually humble itself or see its own demise.
