These supreme court justices are getting a little too comfortable
Sammy Alito is a guy who wears a robe to work regularly. On its face, this statement should tell us everything we need to understand the inner workings of a supposedly complex legal mind. So when Alito openly claims that his power is unquestionable, even by the elected officials in congress, it’s a revealing glimpse into his impenetrable web of a thought process.
“I know this is a controversial view, but I’m willing to say it. No provision in the Constitution gives them (the US congress) the authority to regulate the Supreme Court—period.”
- Sammy Alito in an interview he gave to the Wall Street Journal opinion pages
The only issue is that Alito is absolutely correct in his braggadocios. While all federal judges other than the supremes already have to adhere to an ethics code developed by the federal judiciary, the big bad supremes are the only federal court created by the capital-C Constitution, putting them outside the reach of those standards that apply to other federal jurists. So the lifetime appointments they’re handed are, as we’ve seen, often through the obvious mental and physical decline of these legal giants (nerds).
Shame, if only someone could feed Sam Alito a handful of hot Cheetos and a little potato salad that’s been out in the sun too long. I think that would do the trick.
Side Items
September 11 Restitution: New York State has approved a project to build a mixed-use tower with 1,200 housing units at the World Trade Center site, as announced by city officials on Thursday. One-fifth of the affordable units will be reserved for New Yorkers who lived and worked in lower Manhattan during the 9/11 terror attack, which is an absolutely insane preference to consider. Imagine losing a loved one or personally experiencing one of the most horrific days in recent human history and thinking, “yeah, but I wouldn’t mind moving out here…”
Extreme Heat: Nearly 200 million people in the US, or 60% of the population, are under a heat advisory or flood warning or watch since Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. The heavy heat out of the Southwest has moved and engulfed much of the eastern half of the country. Extreme temperatures spread from the Midwest into the Northeast and mid-Atlantic yesterday where some cities are seeing their hottest temperatures of the year. Can confirm from Lowgap, NC where it’s a balmy 86° at 10am
