Pakistan has declared a state of emergency as flash floods have swept through the country, killing hundreds and displacing millions. Multiple monsoon cycles have hit Pakistan this summer, destroying almost half a million homes and leaving many uncertain of where to go next. Disaster officials rank this year’s flooding among the deadliest on record, similar to the summer of 2010 when more than 2,000 people were killed and almost 20% of the country was flooded. It’s worth mentioning that Pakistan is home to the most glaciers on the planet outside of the Arctic, and these floods are likely a result of glacial melt coupled with heavier storms, both products of climate change.
Meanwhile the world’s richest man & colonizing grifter extraordinaire Elon Musk took precious time away from ignoring his children to baselessly proclaim that, “Population collapse due to low birth rates is a much bigger risk to civilization than global warming”. It’s almost like the second you become a billionaire there’s a switch that’s flipped internally causing you to say the stupidest most detached shit imaginable. I’m no expert on civilizational collapse, but I would guess part of the reason the birth rate is in decline around the world is because it’s near-impossible to raise a child safely and happily on a planet alternating between flood and fire. But what do I know?
