Just days after the latest mass shooting in Texas, a new form of terror has taken hold of the secessionist state. A Range Rover SUV slammed into a crowd of migrants yesterday, killing at least eight people and injuring at least 10 others. These innocent people were waiting at a bus stop outside a shelter in the border city of Brownsville, TX, before suffering what appears to be an intentional attempt to take their lives.
Brownsville has become an epicenter for migration across the US - Mexico border, and it’s turning into a key location of interest for next week’s end to the pandemic-era border restrictions known as Title 42. As those in power continue to insist that the Covid pandemic is over, immigration restrictions are set to expire, leaving the Biden administration in a tough spot to address a growing crisis at the border. The Ozanam migrant shelter in Brownsville is the only overnight shelter in the entire city and manages the release of thousands of migrants from federal custody.
US officials believe that the number of illegal crossings per day, which has recently hovered around 7,500, could soon rise above 12,000. About 2,500 migrants have crossed into Brownsville daily over the past few days, and these numbers will only increase over the coming days and weeks.
