Monday, February 5: Monday Again
Just when you started getting comfy at home, another work week beckons
It’s Monday again my friends, here where things stand:
Over the weekend the US Senate dropped a draft of their new $118 billion bipartisan bill, which would provide another $60 billion in military aid to Ukraine, $14 billion to the apartheid state of Israel and $20 billion for “border security”. All those billions somehow magically available for foreign wars and abusing immigrants, but the roads are still falling apart and the schools are still underfunded and basic health care is still overpriced and housing is still unaffordable. It’s remarkable how the priorities in this country work.
According to a new report from Amnesty International, the apartheid state of Israel has unleashed unlawful lethal force against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, carrying out illegal killings and displaying “a chilling disregard for Palestinian lives”. This news should come as no surprise, but the humanitarian organization said that Israel’s actions in the West Bank have intensified during its genocide on Gaza and both the military and murderous settlers are committing numerous illegal acts of violence that amount to clear violations of international law.
“These unlawful killings are in blatant violation of international human rights law and are committed with impunity in the context of maintaining Israel’s institutionalized regime of systematic oppression and domination over Palestinians.”

Here in the US, the city of Dearborn, Michigan was forced to ramp up its police presence surrounding mosques and other high-traffic areas in direct response to the recent Wall Street Journal piece that described the city, which has the country’s highest Muslim population per capita, as “America’s jihad capital.” It’s really only a matter of time before these outrageous articles and smooth-brained opinion pieces lead to violent tragedy here in the States.
Side Items
“World’s Coolest Dictator”: El Salvador’s president Nayib Bukele, who often refers to himself as the ‘world’s coolest dictator’ says he won the largest election victory in the nation’s history this weekend. Bukele famously suspended civil liberties to conduct a wide-ranging crackdown on gang violence, which may be repressive and overreaching, but is undeniably popular with voters
World Cup Final in Jersey: FIFA announced yesterday that the 2026 World Cup final will be held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. Think back on all the iconic venues to hold this epic sporting event, and now imagine fans from all over the world trying to figure out what exactly a Secaucus is
The Grammy’s: The musical stars of the world converged on some arena in Los Angeles last night and handed out little golden trophies. Some people won, most people lost, the rapper Killer Mike was arrested for reasons unknown, but for the most part it was just another night of glitzy and glamorous distraction from reality. I do not care about the Grammy’s
