Democrats everywhere are recovering today from dislocated shoulders and sore hands from so much patting themselves on the back. The Senate was finally able to pass the “Inflation Reduction Act”, an attempt to fund some of Biden’s legislative priorities (climate & taxes) and prove once and for all that Joseph Robinette Biden is his own politician. Many democrats have really been salivating for an opportunity to congratulate Biden’s Covid-riddled husk of a meat shell, and yesterday the Senate delivered just that.
The bill’s eye-catching details include almost $400 billion for climate and energy programs (over the next decade), and sets a tax minimum for corporations. For context, the US military budget THIS YEAR ALONE is estimated to be $777.7 billion, so maybe let’s hold off on the congratulations. Additionally, one of those “climate friendly” projects benefitting from this bill is the Mountain Valley Pipeline, an oil & gas pipeline that will run through the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. Now if you’re wondering how a gas pipeline fits the bill of climate-facing programs, look no further than West Virginia Senator/maritime enthusiast Joseph Mansion III (I know how his name is spelled, it’s called clever wordplay).
This bill attempts to address some of our biggest societal issues, yet some of the programs left out of the bill include; No child tax credit, no added tax on billionaires, no universal pre-K or cap on prices of insulin. In short, this bill is a great chance for brainwashed Democrats to feel a masturbatory sense of accomplishment, but whether these policies will actually benefit the average American, only time will tell. The question is, will the climate give us the time and chance to find out?
News reports indicate that Israel has come to a ceasefire agreement with some of the Palestinians it was bombing. Last year, when Israel decided to attack, the result was 260 dead Palestinians. This time around the death toll stands at 43 Palestinians dead, including 15 children. The children fortunate enough to survive this round of attacks will carry with them the trauma and pain of war until the next time Israel feels it appropriate to airstrike a densely-populated, blockaded region
There’s a serial killer targeting Muslims on the loose in New Mexico. Thus far, four men have been shot and killed since November, and authorities are left to wonder about motive. Sadly, violence against Muslims has become familiar across the country
On a brighter note, yesterday WNBA player Napheesa Collier made her return to the hardwood, just 10 weeks after giving birth to a healthy baby girl, Mila. Collier, in her fourth year in the league, finished with six points as she works her way back into the rotation
