There’s a storm brewing out in the Pacific. Hurricane Hilary has been growing in intensity for a few weeks, recently graduating into a Category 4 storm as it nears Mexico’s Baja California peninsula. The storm is expected to bring rain, heavy winds, and potential flooding this weekend to Mexico’s Baja California Sur as well as the American southwest.
Hilary was last seen chugging along 425 miles south of the resort town of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, early this morning with steady winds of 145 mph and even stronger gusts, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm strengthened to a Category 3 hurricane yesterday evening and is forecast to remain at Category 4 strength going into the weekend and then begin to weaken throughout the day as it enters colder waters to the west of the peninsula.
Hilary has the rare opportunity to reach Southern California as the first tropical storm out there in 84 years! So our California friends who have been enjoying a heatwave this summer will soon have a potential hurricane to consider along with the ever-present thought of a cataclysmic earthquake that radically alters the American landscape. Nice.

Raising Tupac: This story from The Washington Post discusses Tupac and how being raised with the ideals of the Black Panther Party shaped his ideology and music. “Tupac was born and raised by people who were in the movement, who were movement elders,” author Santi Elijah Holley says in the article. “He grew up among these people who were Black Panthers, former militant, Black liberation activists, and they told him their stories like bedtime stories. Especially his mother, Afeni, always instilled in him this Black pride, self-determination, Black resiliency, resistance.” These are the tales that inspired the musical genius
Rudy’s Downfall: It’s no secret that Rudolph Giuliani has fallen out of favor. The former mayor of NYC, named Time magazine’s person of the year for his service after the 2001 terrorist attack, has seen every form of humiliation and had his reputation eviscerated and personally, I’ve enjoyed every second of it. Now old Rudolph has his liberty in danger for his unapologetic and steadfast defense of former president Donny Trump. I think we can agree that the funniest possible outcome is for Giuliani to spend the rest of his days behind bars
